Launch League

For teachers and counselors

A 20-minute career and business activity

One class period, no prep, nothing to buy. For students 13 and up. The free career quiz it uses does not save student answers, so there is little to manage, but check your school's own rules about student websites. Use your browser's Print command to make a copy.

  1. Step 1 · 3 min

    Open

Ask: what is one job you know a lot about because you have watched someone do it? Take three answers. The point is that students already know more about work than they think.

  2. Step 2 · 10 min

    Quiz

Students take the free career quiz on a phone or laptop (launchleague.us/future-finder). It takes about ten minutes, asks for no account and stores nothing. They write down the top two or three career worlds on their worksheet.

  3. Step 3 · 5 min

    Check it

Pairs ask each other: what is one thing in this result that fits you, and one that does not? The quiz is a starting point, not a verdict, and saying so out loud is the lesson.

  4. Step 4 · 2 min

    One next step

Each student writes one thing they will do this month to learn more: talk to someone who does the work, watch a day-in-the-life video, or try a small version of it.

Student worksheet (keep this on paper)

  1. My top career worlds from the quiz: ______________________________________
  2. One thing in the result that fits me: ______________________________________
  3. One thing that does not fit me: ______________________________________
  4. One thing I will do this month to find out more: ______________________________________

Do not put your name on a copy that leaves the room.

If you have another period

Students who have an idea for something to sell can start the free Business 101 course, which works through their own idea step by step. There is also a guide to fifty ways to make money as a teenager, with what each costs and what Ohio asks of young workers.
